It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of Mr. Magdy Rizgallah at the age of 80. He was born in 1932 in Alexandria, Egypt. Mr. Rizgallah completed his formal education at St. Marc College in Shatby, Alexandria , he played for the Golden Team of the school. Mr. Rizgallah joined the military as an officer and reached the rank of General. He continued his career in basketball and played in both Egyptian Military and Egyptian National Basketball teams. He later coached the Navy team as well as Alexandria Olympic Club, Alexandria Sporting Club and the Egyptian National Basketball team.
Mr. Magdy Rizgallah coached the GAMK basketball team for 25 years and became one of its most respected and loved members. GAMK club became his home club. He was a great friend to everybody and was always there to help anyone in every way he could. Mr. Rizgallah was best known by everybody as “Captain Magdy”. He coached generations of GAMK basketball players and he will be greatly missed. May his soul rest in peace.
Mr. Magdy Rizgallah is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
On behalf of the GAMK committee and members of the club, we would like to extend our sincere condolences to the Rizgallah family. May God grant them patience and healing for their loss.

Tossounian new Gamk basketball coach:

Berdj Artin Tossounian, former Gamk basketball player and committee member was newly appointed by Gamk executive committee to coach Gamk senior men's basketball team.Berdj has been appointed as Gamk basketball team coach on January 2012. He started training and preparing Gamk team players for its 100th anniversary basketball games and also the armenian basketball tournaments . Defense is a very important part of his game as he is trying to prepare the young players to improve their defensive abilities ,as an important part in winning games. We wish Berdj and the team players all the best as they compete in the upcoming games and season.

The Homenetmen - Gamk Alexandria Committee met earlier this week to discuss the centennial celebrations and decided to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Gamk in Alexandria from the 6th of September 2012 to the 9th of September 2012.

Zaven Leylekian selected to play with Cairo Basketball team in Yerevan

Homenetmen Gamk Alexandria basketball player Zaven Leylekian was selected to join the Cairo basketball Team to participate in the Pan Armenian Games in Yerevan. The Armenian Community of Egypt will be present in the Games through Cairo Men’sbasketball Team. Approximately twenty men’s basketball teams are expected to participate in the games.

Cairo Basketball Team Roster:
Apraham Tahtabourian (Number 13), EdouardMichel (Number 9), Hagop Sayan (Number 11), Khatchig Avedanian (Number 14),Norair Mekhtigian (Number 7), Tony Michel (Number 8), Aram Apikian (Number 5),Ari Yerzengatsian (Number 10), Armen Varjabedian (Number 6), Garo Varjabedian (Number4), Hagop Mazloumian (Number 15), Hrastan Kalenian (Number 12), Kegham Terzibashian(Number 4) and Zaven Leylekian (Number 14).
Team Coach is George Torossian and Team Manager is Garen Touloumbadjian. Head of Cairo delegation is Mr. Nubar Simonian.
 

 



  
"Lion" chosen mascot of 2011 Pan Armenian Games in Yerevan

The international committee of the PanArmenian games executive committee chose "Lion" as mascot of the fifth Pan Armenian games, AMD 80 mln were allocated from Armenia's state budget for organization of the Games, which will kick off on August 13, 2011. Also Armenian President Serz Sargsyan met with committee members of All Armenian games to discuss organizational issues .The organizational committee of all armenian games stated that "sport unity" is the motto of the games. The Pan-Armenian Games’ program includes the following sports: Football, Futsal, Basketball, Volleyball, Table tennis,Tennis, Athletics, Swimming, Badminton and Chess. The ceremonial opening of the5th Pan Armenian Games will be held on August 13 at the Vazgen Sargsyan RepublicanStadium. The ceremony will be broadcasted live on TV and admission is free.
 

 



  
Gamk Basketball Court RENOVATED

Homenetmen Gamk Alexandria has finished the renovation of its basketball court according to the changes that FIBA has approved to be implemented from October 2010 (new rules and court markings and modifications). Homenetmen Gamk Committee decided to wait until the winter and rain season in Alexandria ends, to renovate its basketball court. The changes include changing the shape of the key from trapezoid to a rectangle, moving the 3 point line back to a distance of 22.15 ft (6.75 m) from the existing 20.5 ft (6.25 m) and the inclusion of restricted area arc of 4 ft 1.2 in (1.25 m).
